We have often been asked in the recent past, why are we doing this? Why is there a need to create another company in the truck industry? One simple answer is: for new age electrification in heavy duty trucks – someone has to do it!
Following the development trends and announcements of major EU truck OEMs towards battery powered vehicles, the push for next-generation technology in battery trucks is nowhere to be seen. Announcements about long-haul EV trucks are based on substitution engineering, where the primary powertrain architecture for EV trucks is merely an adaptation of older diesel powertrains.
Especially in heavy duty trucks, the economic benefits of battery powered vehicles far surpass those of other technologies such as diesel, e-fuels, and hydrogen-powered alternatives. Experts from Transport & Environment (T&E) have published several studies regarding the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) benefits of the technology. The adaptation of BEV trucks is only going to accelerate, especially as the major costs, such as batteries, are reducing even faster than most projections.
One quote from T&E states: "Looking at the total cost of ownership, from about 2030 onwards, BEVs are expected to be the most cost-effective option for all of the vehicle types assessed in this report. This would even be the case if battery prices do not come down as fast as expected, diesel prices would be relatively low, or electricity prices relatively high. However, due to range limitations, battery electric vehicles can potentially not be used for longer trips, which makes them unsuitable for replacing trucks with high average daily mileages or large distances on certain days. This, however, concerns an extremely low number of trucks."
At BET-MOTORS, we believe that to unlock this huge TCO potential, modern EV trucks need a purpose-designed skateboard. The unique feature of this skateboard, which we call ExoSkate®, is to eliminate the limitation on range without any compromise to the payload capability.
ExoSkate® focuses on efficiency, unlocking TCO benefits of up to +30% versus currently announced electric trucks. We are able to drive up to 1000km without reducing payload capacity at all.
